Product detailed description

What is cascara?

Cascara is usually referred to as "coffee without coffee". These are dried coffee fruits that are collected after the coffee beans have been harvested. These cherries are rich in antioxidants, vitamins and have a pleasant taste that is difficult to describe in one word. It is often compared to fruit teas, with hints of berries, citrus and even sweet undertones.

How to enjoy cascara?

Cascara is very versatile. You can prepare it as a hot or cold drink, or use it as a base for a cocktail. To prepare it, simply pour hot water (approximately 90 °C) over 1-2 tablespoons of dried cascara and let it steep for 4-7 minutes. Then strain and enjoy the delicious drink.

Caffeine Content?

The caffeine content in cascara is around 100 milligrams per litre, while black coffee usually has around 400 to 800 milligrams of caffeine per litre.

A Little History

Cascara was booming in Europe in 2018 until it was officially labelled as a food, and as is often the case, this needed to be corrected from a legislative point of view, and therefore a ban on sales in Europe was introduced. As standard, a new food needs to go through a certain testing period to verify that the food is safe. The sale of cascara was officially permitted from the beginning of 2022, when it once again attracted huge attention and you can currently find it in the offers of roasters, breweries are incorporating cascara into flavoured beers and lemonades, various syrups are made from it and, in essence, many companies from the food industry are coming up with various projects with it.
